About

2018 Lafayette Civic Cup Honoree

Randy K. Haynie, a distinguished government affairs and issue management consultant, was honored as the 86th recipient of the Lafayette Civic Cup in 2018—one of Acadiana’s most prestigious community recognitions.

A lifelong Lafayette native, Randy graduated from Acadiana High School in 1973 and continued his studies at the University of Southwestern Louisiana (now UL Lafayette), earning a B.S. in biology, chemistry, mathematics, and physical science in 1978.   His political journey began as an elected member—and later President—of the Student Government Association in his college’s College of Sciences.

Randy’s entry into public service truly took root when he became a Sergeant-at-Arms for the Louisiana Senate, followed by serving as personal aide to Senator Edgar “Sonny” Mouton. Drawing on hands-on experience and intuition for state issues (including summers working as a oilfield roughneck), he launched Haynie & Associates in 1980, a bipartisan government relations and lobbying firm anchored in Lafayette and Baton Rouge.

In 1984, Randy founded Louisiana Governmental Studies, Inc., which publishes the authoritative Lobbying the Louisiana Legislature series and the Louisiana Legislative Directory, now in its ninth edition. He has represented a wide spectrum of clientele, including JPMorgan Chase, GM, Pfizer, Caesars Entertainment, Enterprise, the New Orleans Saints, the NFL, and key Louisiana associations.

Randy also played a central role in founding the National Association of State Lobbyists (NASL), serving as its past National President, and significantly advancing professionalism and ethics in the lobbying industry.

Randy’s civic service is vast and heartfelt. He serves, or has served on boards including:

  • Lafayette General Hospital Foundation
  • University of Louisiana at Lafayette Foundation
  • Moncus Park (Lafayette Central Park)
  • 232-HELP (chair)
  • Hilliard University Art Museum Society
  • Community Foundation of Acadiana
  • Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities, for which he became chair of the board in 2024

His accolades include:

  • Monsignor Alexander O. Sigur Award (1999)
  • Bishop’s Charity Ball – King Louis XIII (2000)
  • UL Lafayette Spring Gala Honoree (2014)
  • Induction into the Louisiana Political Museum Hall of Fame (2016)
  • National Outstanding Eagle Scout Award (2017)
  • Lafayette Civic Cup (2018)
  • 232-HELP’s Jewell P. Lowe Humanitarian Award (2019)
  • ICON Awards: Patron Award (2019)

A passionate collector and steward of Louisiana’s heritage, Randy has amassed an impressive collection of obsolete Louisiana currency (state, parish, bank notes), historical lottery tickets, governor memorabilia, early Louisiana maps, and artworks by Southern and Louisiana painters. His Baton Rouge office—Long-View, formerly Gov. Earl K. Long’s residence—serves as a living gallery of these treasures.

Married to his high school classmate Daynese, they both graduated in 1978 from USL. Their family includes children and grandchildren, reflecting the personal, grounded side of a man committed to both professional excellence and community legacy.
