About
At the time of her award, Kreamer served as Director of Media and Printing Services at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where she played a key role in university communications and operations. Beyond her professional role, her impact was most strongly felt through her extensive civic involvement and leadership across a wide range of community initiatives.
Kreamer was instrumental in one of the most significant governmental transitions in Lafayette’s history. As a member of the Charter Commission, she contributed to the development of the consolidated city-parish government structure adopted in the mid-1990s. Following the drafting of the charter, she took an active role in educating the public—speaking to dozens of civic groups across Lafayette Parish to ensure voters understood the implications and benefits of consolidation.
Her leadership extended into the business community as well. Kreamer served as Chairwoman of the Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors in 1999. During her tenure, she emphasized economic development, particularly advocating for the expansion of high-technology industries in the region. She also held several other leadership roles within the Chamber, including Vice President of Long-Range Planning, Vice President of Governmental Affairs, and First Vice President.
Kreamer’s commitment to public service included participation on numerous task forces addressing key regional issues such as transportation and infrastructure, including projects tied to the extension of Interstate 49. She also contributed her expertise to healthcare governance as a board member of Lafayette General Medical Center’s membership corporation and as a participant on its investment, finance, and community relations subcommittees.
In addition, she served on the transition team for the Lafayette Parish Clerk of Court, further demonstrating her trusted leadership during times of institutional change. During a pivotal period marked by a federal court order addressing school desegregation, Kreamer also served on the Chamber’s Desegregation Task Force, helping guide community response and dialogue.
Jean Kreamer’s legacy is defined by her thoughtful leadership, her ability to bring people together around complex issues, and her unwavering dedication to improving the quality of life in Lafayette. Her work across government, business, education, and healthcare exemplifies the spirit of the Lafayette Civic Cup—honoring those whose service leaves a lasting and meaningful impact on the community.
