2014 Lafayette Civic Cup Honoree

Henry C. “Hank” Perret Jr., a Lafayette attorney and community leader, was honored with the Lafayette Civic Cup in 2015 for his extraordinary contributions to Acadiana through service, philanthropy, and institution building.

Perret, a founding partner of the Perret Doise Law Firm, has balanced a distinguished legal career with a lifelong commitment to giving back. He has served on the Louisiana State Board of Ethics, Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center Board, the Ascension Day School Board of Trustees, and the Our Lady of Fatima School Board. In 2023, he was also recognized with the Louisiana Bar Foundation’s Curtis R. Boisfontaine Trial Advocacy Award for his professionalism and ethical leadership in the legal field.

Perhaps Perret’s most impactful legacy is Miles Perret Cancer Services, a nonprofit he and his wife, Debra, established in memory of their young son, Miles, who passed away at age eight. Since its founding, the organization has provided free resources and support to more than 14,000 families across Acadiana, offering everything from wellness programs and support groups to wigs and prostheses. “Miles Perret has become more than we ever imagined,” Perret said, reflecting on the generosity of the community that helped bring the vision to life.

In addition, Perret helped establish the Community Foundation of Acadiana, the Games of Acadiana, and Crossroads Catholic Bookstore, each serving as lasting pillars of culture, philanthropy, and faith in the region.

Bill Fenstermaker, chair of the 2015 Civic Cup selection committee, said Perret stood out among a strong group of nominees. “He is a tremendous champion of Lafayette,” Fenstermaker noted.

For Perret, the award is a reflection of the values instilled in him while growing up in a close-knit Lafayette neighborhood with nine siblings and dozens of friends nearby. His role models included his parents, whom he credits with instilling a spirit of service and sacrifice, as well as community leaders such as B.I. Moody and Paul Hilliard, both known for their generosity and mentorship.

“Lafayette is more than a home, neighborhood, school, or university,” Perret said when accepting the Civic Cup. “It is the happiest place in America.” He attributes that happiness to two simple principles: serving those in need and being grateful.
