LOVE DEFINED (1)

Join the Books Along the Teche Literary Festival, the Iberia African American Historical Society, and Shadows-on-the-Teche for a special Black History Month event—an afternoon of storytelling, music, and powerful performance.

On Saturday, February 21, from 1:00–3:00 PM, we’ll gather on the front lawn of Shadows-on-the-Teche for Love Defined, an original one-woman show by Lafayette artist Gale Whiting.  The performance features a narrator, Timothy Sam, and brings to life in biographies, voices, and legacies of Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Dinah Washington, and Sarah Vaughan—four legendary women who shaped jazz, blues, pop, and swing music.

Registration is required in advance. A suggested donation of $10–$15 per person will be collected at the event, with donations accepted onsite.

Whiting will also be featured during the 2026 Books Along the Teche Literary Festival as part of Voices of Jazz: A One-Woman Showcase on Saturday, April 11.
