Lafayette Parish Medical Society Alliance - Medical Scholarship Fund
The Lafayette Parish Medical Society Alliance (LPMSA) is a group that consists of physicians and physicians' spouses dedicated to the health of Acadiana. The purposes of the LPMSA are to promote health education, to volunteer in activities that meet health care needs, to support health related charitable endeavors, to assist in programs that improve the health and quality of life for all people and to lend support to the Lafayette Parish Medical Society.

Lafayette Parish Medical Society Alliance's annual scholarship cycle is now open. Scholarship applicants must be residents of Lafayette Parish for at least seven (7) years prior to apply for this scholarship, currently enrolled in or entering medical school and a Louisiana resident for at least 12 months prior to applying. The scholarship deadline is Thursday, May 31, 2018. Click here to view and complete the application.
Lafayette Parish Medical Society Alliance Awards $8,000 Scholarships

Lafayette, LA – Lafayette Parish Medical Society Alliance (LPMSA) awarded two scholarships to medical students from Lafayette. Jeremy White and Anne Thomas, both medical students with LSUHSC New Orleans School of Medicine, received a $4,000 scholarship each to assist with medical school.
White is wrapping up is second year at LSUHSC in New Orleans. He hopes to return to Lafayette and open his own medical practice. He’s a graduate of University of Louisiana at Lafayette and St. Thomas More Catholic High School.
Thomas is currently preparing for her fourth year of rotations and she is in the process of applying for her residency. She’s a graduate of Louisiana State University and St. Thomas More Catholic High School.
This scholarship is made possible by contributions from Lafayette Parish Medical Society Alliance members and aims to sustain the future of medicine in Lafayette Parish by providing scholarships to medical students. "It takes a little bit of the burden of having to worry about money so they can concentrate on school more,” said Dana Bishara, co-president of LPMSA.
LPMSA is a nonprofit service organization of physicians and their spouses who are dedicated to advancing the health of Acadiana. The group is committed to promoting health education; supporting health-related charitable endeavors; encouraging participation of volunteers in activities that address health care needs; and extending health-related programs of the Lafayette Parish Medical Society.

LPMSA awarded $5,000 scholarships to medical students Kelly Landry and Wade Tucker for tuition and educational expenses.
On Tuesday, June 16, 2015, LPMSA awarded a $3,000 grant to Amy DeKerlegand. DeKerlegand is a graduate of UL Lafayette and Lafayette High School. She has been accepted into the medical program at the LSU Health and Science School in New Orleans and will begin school this fall.

On Monday, July 14, 2014, the Lafayette Parish Medical Society Alliance, a medical scholarship Fund at Community Foundation of Acadiana, awarded three scholarships to Kent Broussard, Alexandra Joseph and Laura Beth Rivers.
Kent Broussard and Laura Beth Rivers will attend the LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport in the fall and Alexandra Joseph will attend the LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans.

This is the second year that students were awarded and the scholarship application requirements were as follows: resident of Lafayette Parish, enrolled full-time in an accredited Unites States-based or international medical school, currently enrolled in or entering his/her first year of medical school and a Louisiana resident for at least 12 months prior to applying.

On Wednesday, July 24, 2013, the Lafayette Parish Medical Society Alliance, a medical scholarship Fund at CFA, presented one of its first grants to Jacob Sellers. Scholarships are granted to students residing in Lafayette Parish who are entering medical school to cover tuition and other educational expenses.
